Why This Site Exists
Because the web used to be fun — loud, colorful, personal, and made by people who just loved something and wanted to share it. A site about Ernest practically demands that energy. KnoWhutIMean?
A love letter to the old web
Remember when a fan site was somebody’s passion project — hand-built, a little gaudy, glowing with obvious love — instead of a feed engineered to keep you scrolling? You’d stumble onto a tribute page at 1 a.m., click a webring button, and tumble into the next strange, wonderful corner of the internet. Hey Vern! is built in that spirit: made for a human being to enjoy, not to harvest one.
What we believe
- People first. Made for visitors, not advertisers or algorithms.
- Fun over funnels. No pop-ups, no “sign up to continue,” no dark patterns — just Ernest.
- No tracking, no ads. We don’t follow you around (see our privacy policy).
- Own what you love. We’re fans of physical media and preserving the films and shows we grew up on, so they can’t be quietly taken away.
- The independent web is worth saving. Small, weird, hand-made sites are the soul of the internet.
Part of something bigger
Hey Vern! is a member of The Old Web Project — a small, growing webring of independent, lovingly-made sites reviving the spirit of the early web. Hop the ring and get lost on purpose.
Built with care (and a little help from modern tools) by Trey Cox Creative — for the love of Ernest, Jim, and the old web.
